Governor Soludo Receives Massive Endorsement in Ogidi, Promises to Address Flooding

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has assured the people of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State of government intervention to tackle the persistent flooding issue plaguing the community. During a visit to the flooded areas, led by traditional ruler Igwe Alex Onyido, the governor received a warm welcome and a significant endorsement from the community.

Governor Soludo attributed the severe flooding to the improper termination of the drainage system, a challenge he noted was inherited from previous administrations. “Because government is a continuum, we will take it up to solve the issue,” he remarked, emphasizing a collaborative approach to governance. He highlighted ongoing progress in nearby areas, noting that work in Owerre Aja, Obosi is currently 70 to 80 percent complete, with similar efforts in Inland Doors and Nkpor.

Acknowledging the shortcomings of a previous contractor responsible for drainage work, Soludo admitted, “I must admit that the contractor did a poor job.” He outlined future plans, stating that approximately eight kilometers of drainage need to be constructed to properly address the flooding issue. The governor expressed satisfaction with the Ogidi community’s initiative to enforce the establishment of catchment pits in their compounds as a necessary remedial measure.

In addition to environmental concerns, Soludo addressed broader developmental needs. He promised that by the end of next month, construction of a government school in Ogidi will begin, enabling children to enjoy free education. He commended the community for already fencing off land for the school, showcasing a collaborative spirit. The governor reiterated his administration’s focus on empowering the less privileged, stating, “Our government is for the poor. We want to have a society where we create opportunities for everyone.”

The visit also served as a celebration of Ogidi’s contribution to global literature, with Soludo expressing deep appreciation for the literary legacy of Chinua Achebe, hailing him as a beacon of culture and intellect. “The world celebrates Chinua Achebe as the gift to the world,” he affirmed, noting that no one is more deserving of having the airport named after him.

Earlier, the State Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, the Member representing Idemili North in the State House of Assembly, Mr. Kingsley Udemezue, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Entertainment, Mr. Bob-Manuel Udokwu, all commended Soludo and expressed the community’s support for his re-election campaign on November 8, 2025. The Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area, Engr. Stanley Nkwoka, assured the governor of the community’s readiness to deliver victory to APGA in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

The community further demonstrated their support by presenting Soludo with a cheque of fifty million naira as part of their backing for his campaign. Reflecting on security challenges faced upon assuming office, the governor noted improvements since then, stating, “Today, even those contesting for election now move freely,” while acknowledging that much work remains to build a new society through hard work and community effort.

This visit underscores Soludo’s commitment to addressing both immediate and long-term challenges in Ogidi, fostering a partnership between the government and the community for sustainable development.
